Someone mentioned already mentioned this, but this is how I wanted TH to be.... I love TH, but I wanted that feeling of being emotionally overwhelmed by this beautiful sound. No words!

it would be funny if the title "Tape 05" indicates this was actually the 5th tape they mailed out to somebody but that person has just never been able to play the tape to find out its unique contents have such a beautiful new BOC song inside rather than what everyone else got

I love it! What a day.

So, I had been trying to crack the data transmission sounds before.

Now with this, I have a hunch: https://youtu.be/6bghDcbzfEU?si=LPCPnVifCb4WkHRw

The static at the start and it’s called tape 05 - my hunch is the album is already distributed on the tapes? That’s why there’s the blank space at the end of them.

I’ll have another crack at seeing if there’s any video copy protection

My favorite aspect of this rollout is how well their artistic statement ties together the religious cults of the past with the ones of the present including their own fans! I feel like this was kind of born out of what happened when they released Geogaddi and everyone started looking for faces in the cover art and Mike and Marcus even commented that the people were taking it too far. After all, it was the desire to organize all this speculative information that gave birth to the BoC pages in the first place and it feels like Mike and Marcus just kept running with this feedback loop of cultish fan obsession and here we are! It’s really quite brilliant and while I am overjoyed about a new release, it’s also quite unsettling to me how much I have fallen into the “cult”.

Then again, as Terrence McKenna once said, “Culture is the ultimate cult.” So yes, we are all in one cult or another.

So the tapes that were mailed are copies of copies of copies of copies of that original video.

There's a name for that analog degradation effect: generation loss (would be an awesome album title)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_loss

We know that BOC used that technique before

It's interesting that in the McKenna clip where he talks about culture not being your friend, he describes the possibility of constructing a human paradise. That's sort of what the harp sequence in the video looks and sound like to me and it is course finding meaning through faith. It's hard wired into our DNA. The problem is people, especially in groups, are imperfect and things inevitably fall apart.

While that would be cool, I don't think it's quite as simple as that. The audio is completely different for a start, but maybe that's how they processed the video. I think they just wanted those tapes to be like mini-trailers for the actual trailer, possibly to see how much we could figure out from what very little we could see.

That would be a very BoC thing to do. If they did this, I'm assuming they only did it with the visuals and added the two different audio tracks in later.

The song is not available on the streaming platforms... do you guys think it will be available soon? or this might just be some kind of "intro" ????

is pretty much BoCish. sounds like the mysterious track at the end of the societal x tape.

So, this turned out to be on the nose.
