It has been my dream to get a BOC ambient album as their ambient tracks are amongst my favourites, This track in particular always made me want to hear more in this vein...

Not that Inferno will be anything like this of course, but I do wonder if we'll get some moments of heart wrenching beauty and serenity.

I don't know how much you can attribute this track to them because it's just a Christian song reversed with some reverb effects. I do remember being fascinated by this track "back when", it's one of the best reversed pieces of music I've heard. Somehow it actually sounds like a foreign language with totally alien intonation instead of reversed English. Makes for a very unique "out of this world" vibe

Which Christian song? Forward ("reversed") it still sounds brilliant!

I think that still deserves the BoC credit (though they'd presumably have to clear the sample if they wanted to get away with releasing it). Nobody Here by Oneohtrix Point Never is just two bars of "Lady In Red" by Chris DeBurgh and it's not even reversed. In fact a lot of Vaporwave plunders like that.

Also look at pretty much anything Leyland Kirby does. It's what you choose to clip out of all the stuff that's available, and the frame you hang it in but it's still art

I couldn't disagree more, they heard something that they seen something far greater in, manipulated it and created something quite different and far more powerful. The exact loop they chose from the record and the way they changed it into something magical is genius imo. This takes skill, vision and creativity and I'm amazed that you think they shouldn't take any credit for that. Definitely not as subtle as their other sample work but still worthy of praise I think.

If they could hear that the song would sound good reversed I agree that takes skill. I'm thinking they just listened to Christian kids' songs on reverse to find something edgy and stumbled upon this. Would be pretty amusing if I did the same and then someone passionately worshipped me for being a musical genius

Not sure why you would want to be worshiped, but yeah finding the amazing loops in forgotten records sounds like a really fun time and you should.

It's like what they said about Marcel Duchamp. "Anyone can find a urinal and call it art".

I just think they have a good ear for finding things. I guess you're not impressed, and that's fine!

On a side note, I don't think I've seen as many negative comments about the brothers on Twoism since this album was announced, I wonder why. I guess people are just dejected in general these days.

If you're implying I was being negative I wouldn't say that. Just reasonable, I'm allergic to any kind of inflated celebrity worship. A case in point would be those "celebrity IQ lists" where people like Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga or Kim Kardashian apparently have genius level IQs. Aphex Twin famously intentionally fueled his mythos, like the story that he hacked a Sinclair ZX81 which has no sound circuitry at age 11 so that it makes a sound, I saw a blog post saying there had been a story in a magazine where an adult engineer had done that and Richard likely stole the story and attributed it to himself. That's not great behavior but I don't hate him for it either because it's pretty good trolling. It's the fanboys that are thirsty for god-level celebrities to worship that are the problem.

Gah, okay cool. I just enjoy the song a lot and it means a lot to me due to where I was in life when I heard it. And for that reason it just adds to the overall adoration I have for BOC and their ability to pull seemingly average bits of music and turn them into something that touches my soul (was never a fan of the original Midas touch either). It genuinely gives me goosebumps every time but the original doesn't do that at all.

I can't help feel slightly depressed analyzing it like this to ensure we all have a totally pragmatic sense of how much we should like something based on how hard it was to achieve. Sometimes magic can be very simple.

Of course there's a big difference between exuberant enthusiasm over fake achievements and IQs and actual artwork. I already praised the track earlier in the thread anyway. I do consider clever sampling to be a serious skill and this still qualifies. It's the experience that matters.

Recently I was pretty blown away by the sample breakdown on the beat that was used on Yung Lean's Ginseng Strip 2002

Much more impressive sampling and kind of similar nonsense vocals as a result but I still rate BoC's track as a better listening experience regardless, although they are close

For his credit, richard is very easy guy to demestifiy once you learn he is the same guy that went on a drunk rent on xltronic about 303 VSTs : https://www.reddit.com/r/aphextwin/comm ... ant/?tl=fr

For those that won't be going, are you going to listen to snippets of it on social media, or wait for the release on the 29th?

Will listen to full release only. It's too special to listen to snippets imo.

Full agree, and I'm a fairly introverted listener. Ideally I'd like to cozy up with six candles in the dark, get nice and stoned, and listen to the 70-minute continuous mix for the first time.

I would be enticed to a local listening event if there was exclusive merch, but it's not clear to me that there will be anything like that.

If they do it right, they could chose venues that require putting your phone in a locked faraway bag/locker.

I am 100% going to try and make it to the London sounding. Being optimistic here.

Flights are tossy money but sure, would likely be the last opp for some of us to do this
