Gosh what a phenomenal track to be treated to. A perfect distillation of everything we know and love plus a little extra on top. It's been a great couple of weeks anticipating the new record - these are the good days!
I would love to know where the middle eastern woodwind instrument was sampled from, it's so damn eerie. As a drummer I also love the amount of space between snare hits this type of beat allows for extravagant stick spins!

Long post and Spoiler warning. Though if you’re reading this thread I’m sure you know what you’re in for with these posts.

I’m out of town for work. Just now got a chance to watch, listen, watch and listen again. Scrolling through the comments it’s cool to see everyone’s reactions and observations. Many mirror my own.


Introit is just classic BoC intro track, jingle, analog warm goodness…these type of title track and interludes will never get old. It welcomes you right back into a familiar place.

Then C-C-C-Consciousness. (One of my favorite little parts of Prophecy by the way)

We are taken to what at first listen feels like alien territory for BoC but after my second listen…it wasn’t nearly as much I thought. At just over 5 minutes you get almost 4-5 different sections of the song.

The first :50 seconds or so to when the Cocteau Twin-esque guitar riffs. (Someone here mentioned Robin Guthrie and my mind went there immediately when I heard the guitar kick in.) This is something I kind thing Early BoC/ Hell interface would sound like.

Then at 2:00 minutes or so we get some classic arpeggiated BoC panic.

That carries us into the amazing modulated vocal segment. My mind went to Black Moth Super Rainbow/VHS Head but, with a sample that seems like it could’ve easily been recorded during the geogaddi era. Just far less subtle with its message.

The final moments around 3:46 begin to pull you out of the journey. The analog tones feel almost like a distant beacon transmission, guiding you forward until, at 4:06, the song settles into its most warm, optimistic, and mellow section of the song.

With all that said, this may genuinely be the most “Boards of Canada” Boards of Canada track they’ve ever made. It feels like a culmination of nearly every sonic idea and emotional texture they’ve explored throughout their entire body of work.


Lastly, if this is a taste of how well the rest of the album is going to sound as far as production…we are all in for a real treat.

But we kind of all knew that anyway didn’t we?

Yes, I’m feeling connected to my instincts because after the Mr. Mistake Remix was released I remember thinking “I hope their sound continues to move in this direction.”

I may be projecting, and it’s satisfying for me to think about it this way, but it feels like they’ve been revealing the new direction of their sound in since 2016 through the Nevermen Remix work and Societas X Tape.

The ‘live’ drum sound in Prophecy At 1420 Mhz evokes the Mr. Mistake Remix, and the groove feels connected to Treat Em Right.

There vocal cries and OM sounds in Mr. Mistake sound similar to some of the vocals in PA1420 Mhz. And there’s the Hindustani flute line at the end of Mr. Mistake - the flute that begins the new track also has a Hindustani-like timbre but they’re detuned. I think we may hear more Indian Classical influence throughout Inferno (I’m also thinking of the M. S. Subbulakshmi track on Societas). Industrial raga.

Also, did anyone notice that the percussion in the outro of PA1420 Mhz sounds like gamelan?

Although I disagree with the message, this is one of THE greatest pieces of art I have ever seen. Incredible. I understand what they are saying and see why they would say it. It seems to me that they believe embracing nothingness brings them certain freedoms and comforts. Freedom from mind control from predatory religions. Comfort in being able to let go. Beauty in seeing the fragility and uniqueness of what our lives are; knowing there is no permanence. The lyrics in the song Nothing Is Real accuse Jesus of "offering eternal life when you knew it was not right." Anyone presenting the idea of eternal life to a human will absolutely change how they then think and act. Unfortunately, that has led many humans down a dark path. That dark path horror show is represented by the bold religious visuals we've seen with Inferno. Prophecy at 1420 Mhz boldy contrasts those who support the mind control of the idea of eternal life to those who embrace nothingness. The latter half, after "god" speaks and reassures that nothingness is truth, that seems to be where it represents how embracing nothingness leads to the beauty, freedom, peace, and comforts that follows. It's just you and your loved ones. We are our own spiritual element (pic of weird family from video and shirts). Embrace and believe in only ourselves. This album may be their own statement as to spirituality and the human condition. That our spirituality stems from a sense of self and our idea of a God is basically just because we instinctively recognize there are certain numbers/patterns/ideas that resonate with us and everything around us. But when we die, truly, there is nothingness that awaits us. It seems to be presented in a way that's more than a flimsy fictitious statement for the sake of a cool concept album. With Introit being a pre-worship ritual, 1420Mhz being the frequency reserved for listening to messages from "out there", from non-human sources. Seeing the titles of the tracks to come. They look like they are fighting cult-like religious mind control with it's own weapons. This is their presentation of their own spiritual statement. The cult of BoC is nearly here and there are no Blue Oysters involved, lol.

I'm hesitant to speak much deeper than that as the internet isn't a good place to have divisive conversation. Conversation may get heated here these next several months. Please just remember to be kind and respectful of each other.

Despite disagreeing with their statement, I have watched and listened to this again and again. Robert Beatty absolutely nailed the video. BoC absolutely delivers the phenomenal music. Utterly amazing.

I sincerely hope there will be video to accompany the entire album. Doubtful, but as I've said about TAPE 05, the music feels like a message and the video feels like context. But perhaps we have all the context we need. Perhaps Robert has just done such a good job that it's hard to imagine hearing the rest of the album without visuals.

I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this now and it just gets better with each play, seriously.

There's something familiar, alien, new, tormented, old, haunted...just so much packed into one beautifully crafted audio visual experience. I'm in awe and I can't wait for more!

When I first saw it posted on YouTube Music, it was listed as "Boards of Canada - Single" with the two tracks just titled "Track 1" "Track 2" with a generic WARP album art. It later updated properly and it looks to be using one of the posters for it's album art.

Could we get a single per poster???? I immediately loved the way they looked, and if the pairing we got from this is as good as it is, I'll be an even bigger blubbering, giddy idiot than I have been all day today, lol
