take this with a grain of salt because so far I myself have it only as hearsay but I heard there will be no interviews for this album

That would blow harder than the big bang itself.

That would be fine with me. Art doesn’t always need someone asking questions of the creators. Will I read interviews if they are in fact done? Damn skippy.

Call it generic as you please but honestly what else more can they really say other than treading the same old grounds
why not just let their fiery creation speak for them.

LP6 will definitely be both more tribal-sounding and more space-faring in 2039. Think Gabriel's Rhythm Of The Heat meets deep space nine background hum. Also a lot of references to submarines and being buried alive.

The artwork and music, so far, speak loud and clear enough to justify the possible/likely absence of future interviews. Are words always necessary, then? I wouldn't mind having no interviews this time.

Not necessary, just hugely interesting. They've never done a bad interview I don't think, always lots of interesting insights and tidbits for the hungry fans. I for one will be sad if they aren't doing one for this album, whether that is disrespectful or not, I'm not sure.

You can be sad! That's not disrespectful.

Besides, the overall experience of Boards of Canada's discography, release cadence, and privateness makes the curtain between them and the fans that much more conspicuous, so yeah, it's understandable to want a bit more of a peek. But I've got to respect if they'd rather not. We've already been given so much!

That experience of their work, though, says a lot in its own right. I don't know many bands that have a similar combination of consistent quality, fan devotion, privacy, and commitment to craft over a rapid release cycle / public presence. Say too much and it could spoil some of the magic.

They initially started doing interviews to counteract the speculation that would thrive if they remained silent, including the idea that they were being superficially “mysterious.” I’m grateful that they’ve preserved the impact of BOC by never letting the music become subordinate to themselves personally. It’s inspiring.

Of course, it would be amazing to hear them talk about the new project. Maybe they feel that it’s important to skip interviews for Inferno in particular.

To add some numbers to this. We currently have the following amount of interviews:
  • Music: 22
  • Geo: 25
  • Campfire: 38
  • Harvest: 8 + 1 Pitchfork article with some quotes
The 38 ones during Campfire were indeed precisely to counter the claims they were druids.

Do you think there’s still potential to discover more interviews at this point?

Yes. Since 2025 at least 4 previously unavailable interviews were added.
Hopeful, I think.

Let’s summon some interviews:

"We got into it because we love music, not because we want to be in the press. In fact, it’s all the industry bullshit that makes us stay away in the first place. But our reticence has backfired on us on occasions because if we stay quiet it creates a vacuum where speculation and bullshit can thrive."

Why does everyone think they're mysterious? They're just two regular dudes. They aren't like a lot of other musicians wearing masks or offering up some pretentious artist statement. Although maybe they jumped the shark with that on Inferno. We'll have to see.

Because when you commit to not attaching your personal identity to your work then people reflexively fill that empty space with misunderstanding.

My man Aristotle is often quoted as having said “Nature abhors a vacuum” so yeah, the whole internet culture is really a universal demonstration of it.

Replacing a vacuum with another however in most case, filling a void with vacuous crap.

Then there are moments of hope, as with BoC.
