This was hard to do, but I am glad I did it, and I look forward to everyone's replies. Feels blasphemous to "rank" their albums, and I like the random tapes just as much and they weren't even part of this survey

I don't think anything could supplant The Campfire Headphase as my favourite release but Inferno comes very close. It's their late masterpiece.

The Campfire Headphase
Inferno
Trans Canada Highway
In a Beautiful Place Out in the Country
Boc Maxima (mainly because of Whitewater. As an elder millennial born in 1985 that sound just feels encoded in my genes somehow)

You know mine was a bit weird but easy to understand I've just had more time with MHTRTC. Hits deeper, more of my life around it. I don't know its a hard question.

1. MHTRTC
2. Geogaddi
3. Campfire Headphase
4. Inferno
5. Tomorrows Harvest

The album ranking question was not even mandatory.
And the tapes / EPs etc are not studio LPs. I wanted to specifically compare the LPs.

While discussions about alternative survey platforms can be interesting topics in their own right, this thread was created specifically for participation in the survey. I already had to remove a number of off-topic posts and I'd prefer not to continue doing so.

Let's keep the conversation centered on this survey and its results. I did some cleansing to keep it on topic. Thanks for your understanding.

700+! people have filled it in already so we surely will have a balanced report soon.

I don't see the harm in doing a separate survey for Twoism specifically after this one because you would be surprised how many community members here didn't complete the survey because they simply wouldn't touch google even with a 10ft pole. After all, we are boards of canada listeners! We have embedded into our membranes firmly that the internet is evil, google is Satan. I voted anyway... but just saying! It doesn't hurt to have more data now.

Done and done. I can't help feeling like my written responses lack any kind of novel insight, but whatevs. Maybe I just don't have all that much to say nowadays.

I've arrived at the same ranking. It's pretty brutal on MHTRTC since it was my intro to them back in the day (swiftly followed by my grabbing the prior EPs and blowing my mind), and it carries the most personal nostalgia and some tunes I could never be without. Then it's a big dropoff down to TCH which is fine, a nice vibe for a summer day / great palette cleanser, but it not in the same league.

There's a good chance Inferno could take top spot eventually...

(also avoiding Google, sorry)

Very interesting graphs and answers, thanks Fredd-E! Funny how the more it had been listened to, the higher the ratings became, as if a linear regression could be made from this graph.

I enjoyed this, thank you. Did you rely a bit on AI for the writing of the comments?

One of my theories was cited as an outlier which I'm honoured by.

"An elaborate theory suggests the cult theme is a mirror for the fans themselves,
who worship Boards of Canada almost religiously. Tracks like “Memory Death”
and “You Retreat In Time And Space” are thought to symbolize the burial of their
old familiar sound."

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Brilliant work Fred. Fascinating to read some of those theories and get a feel for how others are experiencing the album. I suspect it is one that is only going to grow in stature over time.

I thought that, then it dawned on me...if I didn't like it, I probably wouldn't listen as often ;-)

The "correlation does not equal causation" classic!

Definitely interesting seeing the aggregated sentiment of the album. Listened to it again really loud on nice speakers yesterday and it keeps getting better! All the parts that give me goosebumps are still giving me goosebumps even after listening 4-5 times.

What would happen if Fantano upped his 1-2 rookie numbers to 7+? Would his rating go from a light 6 to a soft 8 perhaps?
