I'm too confused to understand what Open-Minded means!
Black then White are all I see in my infancy...Red and Yellow then came to me, reachin' out to me, lets me see...

Still wonder too..

Seing as you got some back up now I'd like to see an example. I really wonder if it isn't your own interpretation of the stuff being posted here?

Hmmm...I can't really give any concrete examples...its pretty abstract. Thats why I ask "is it me".

Hills West "a message to the artists here who..." and some of the responses come across like it.

There's way more...but I can't remember them all...

actually, i think cupz has a point. this exchange - "you're elitist and closed-minded" vs "no you just have bad standards and enjoy crappy music" (sorry if that summation isn't comprehensive enough to really contain the scope of the opposing sides; you know what i mean though) seems to have long been a back-and-forth dialog, sometimes expressed in the form of flamewars or tamer arguments and sometimes in the form of peaceable discussion, in most any group of people talking about music.

seems like either group gains ground or loses it in any given area (internet forum, coffee shop, classroom, different internet forum, or group of people) and sometimes this is influenced by the type of music being discussed. if less people of the group called "elitists" (whether this is true or not) generally tends to like a kind of music (let's pretend this is an Ozzy forum or something where elitism is minimal and exuberant simple praise is prevalent) they will get less voice on the forum and probably most of the forumgoers will be seen as a group of excitedly babbling morons, where it could just as easily be said by an outside observer that they are just enthusiastic and don't care much what others think of them.

the reason i think this way is because i myself have been on both sides of the coin at different times. i believe i know what it feels like to have someone talking down their nose at me because of the music i like or the way i express that i like it. I'm an Ozzy fan and it's not out of the question for me to throw my fist in the air and scream WOOOOOOO PRINCE OF DARKNESS RULES ME FOREVER, which of course makes me look like a primo idiot in many peoples' estimation. i'm aware of this, i simply don't care. but i've also been in the place of the ever-erudite BoC fanboy who cleverly talks down the narrow-sighted dope who bashes 'my music'.

sorry if i've actually missed the point and gone off on a threadjacking tangent. and for the record, i don't view open-mindedness as universally, inherently good simply by virtue of being open-mindedness. i think open-mindedness, even when defined accurately ("open minded = the will to view an opinion not one's own as rational and well-founded" vs. "open minded = i like everything indiscriminately!") can be used in silly ways including as a show of one's superiority over another. believe me, after going to a private liberal arts college for 2 1/2 years i'm already pretty well-accustomed to people trying to make the case that i'm not openminded enough and therefore somehow lacking. i'm not the most open-minded person on the planet, and i don't think that fact alone reflects poorly on my personality or my intellect - i've encountered open-minded geniuses and open-minded morons alike (myself being neither, i hope).

threadjack over!

Great post turquoise70, though..

I'm still not convinced as I don't see the stuff you describe all that much on this forum. I really think it's taken a bit over the top. I mean, am I precocious when I don't agree with someone a few times? When you emphasize something a lot, it'll automatically get more attention.

Let me put it this way.
This forum is a very open minded forum because there are rarely flaming wars or whatever. We respect eachothers opinions most of the time as well. Ok, there might be some arguing from time to time but that's completely normal and healthy too.
I see a variety of music(recommendation) passing by on this forum, that alone brings down the 'posing' imo.

Well, we have had discusions...

Remember the justin timberlake scenario? I said I didn't like that track, and you immidiatly replied with "blablabla open your mind and enjoy good music".

Not that I care all that much, I'm not that insecure...

Yeah, I remember that.. see this topic Grim on Mbient - Best of 2006

I never claimed you weren't open minded in that topic. Neither did I say you were closed minded and neither did I say "I'm the most open-minded".. Again, I think it's about how you interpret it.

I remember that you once told me that you were browned off of the 2006 mix because of 2 artists I used. You were the only one who took exeption about my 2006 Xltronic Radioshow where you expressed your thoughts about the 'average dance music' I used in it. This way you highlight a small percentage of the set (like 5%) so it's not that odd that I responded in the way I did.

Could be, just as well. I AM feeling rather strange lately. Lot of shit going on here. Alas...

You shouldn't really see it as a big deal. Its just something I felt, and I express my feelings...allot
I think thats why it looks like I dislike so much. I always say I dislike something (sometimes not followed by what I DID like). Oh well, had tons of discussions about that with my nephew, who still thinks i'm saying in an attampt of being cool...

sorry, I'm rambling. Don't take my shit so seriously. This thread was just a loose observation.
