Happy Belated Birthday!

I really loved the new track, it's the most personal track for me. I think the drums were really cool, but they didn't fit completely with the rest of the song, and the end was too harsh. Otherwise, really cool song. I think your work with added samples is really wonderful.

Awww, but the end is my favourite bit.
I create hours and hours of harsh noise like that.
I just don't release it because I know you guys don't like it.
Guess you could say I was releasing a little bit of steam at the end. ;)

Haven't you had enough of what other people think by now? I've said this before, how about you stop relying on a bunch of weirdos on the internet for input and just go with what you think. Although, it might not be helpful, you never know.

But if you don't have comments, it's kinda like people aren't listening because they aren't showing recognition.
I know it's a long stretch, but yeah.
I also like comments because it gives me something to go on.

This thread is almost 10 pages now and doesn't really grab my attention anymore. Make an album or EP and release it in a separate topic. I'll bet you'll get different feedback.

The reason I keep it one topic is because I don't want to flood the fucking board with my shit.
I'd get banned for crap like that at any other message board.

yeah, have to agree with Aesthetics on this one, i think the best option you can take now is to write an ep, or short album. choose a narrative and try and concentrate on that for a few weeks/months. i think you have enough feedback, both positive and negative to create something that you are truly proud of.

TTK, please make some albums...look at it this way. You've got a huge assortment of songs now, and I'm sure you could take your 50 something songs, and narrow it down to songs you like, and songs you can admit are pure rubbish. That's fine, but now take those that are left and put them together into an album. If they don't fit together well, or just don't feel like they belong together, then you're not ready for a perfect album, and all you have is a collection of one scene stories. So, keep making songs, then a year from now, go back find the ones that are still good, and throw the rest to the side. Then do the same thing, try and arrange an album...

I think your problem is your looking for details in every song from us, rather than finding those details on your own, and learning from them. You need to release it once you go through each song, and figure out every detail, and know that that's how you wanted it. I know from my past experience with music that I would release songs once I found something I liked with one part, the rest was garbage. I'd only stumble upon the first two things that I could get to fit, and from there it was just adding stuff that was decent and quick. I never spent days trying to figure out parts, most would just be thought upon in a few minutes - hours, and I'd move on.

The songs should really be personal to you as well. Don't just find the first melody or sound, part, whatever and use it off for the basis of the song to work other parts that fit. Make sure every detail is well thought out and everything belongs for a reason.

I'm sure you can do this on your own TTK, I know you can, cause your not impatient or you wouldn't be making music. Just slow things down, focus on the details and learn from them before having us tell you are thoughts.

Yeah but I put all my songs that I put up on the 'Space up for download.
Do you guys do that?

No I haven't downloaded any of those songs, but that's just because I don't like listening to songs rather than albums. I had your two albums, Marshmallow and Barrumundi up until I transfered all of my music from downloads to actually buying the cds. And those two albums had a lot that I didn't like on it (no offense) so I never transfered them to cds.

TTK I've been in a relatively similar situation as you. First I'd release songs every week or few weeks on myspace, ask for criticism. Then I released an album, Eyes of the Trees. Then back to myspace releases. I can admit that almost all of the songs that I released were barely worked on, and I didn't put my full effort into them. At least not compared to what I could have put into them. They'd take never more than 12 hours of total work on the whole thing, and although I still love them since I have a connection to them, I can't expect anyone to fall in love with them, since they're not really fully worked tracks.

Now, let's say I spent two years working on music, making tons of songs, and working really hard on each one to be absolutely perfect and came out with an album of songs that all fit together and were perfect...well then I'd expect there to be some positive criticism and possibly have people listen to my album frequently. But that's a lot of work, and I'll admit I'm not ready for that yet. And unless you're ready for that, I don't think you have much to speak for.

I have no problem with putting up a few tracks every once in awhile for some feedback, and criticism, it definitely can be helpful...but when it gets to a point where your normal routine is just coming here every week and expecting us to go into the details of each song for you, it just seems a little more like instant gratification for some quick work, rather than a full effort.

But TTK it's your decision, I could be completely wrong with my opinion. Just from my personal experience, going through something similar to you, I feel that the same amount of effort could be applied to each song, just work on each song longer, and really spend time making every second of your song perfect. Then put those songs together, make them all fit perfectly on a cd, then release it to us in the future. Maybe even a few years. Sure, you could still put up some songs that you work on, but don't make it your routine for making music.

Sorry for the long posts, and I really hope I'm not offending you at all.

Didn't offend me dude, it's the internet! Anyone who gets offended by something over the internet is a silly face.
And... thanks for being brutally honest, that's what this board needs more of.
I don't really know I can make most of my songs sound any more better than they are.
To me, they're great just the way they are. I mean, yeah they might sound under produced and a bit sketchy, but it's kinda of a quirky aesthetic I have going (sorta intentionally, but not really). And plus, I usually spend more than 12 hours on each track. Takes me a full week of work to get most of my tracks.
Wonder why I usually put tracks up on weekends? 'Cause I work on them through the week. And I only really work well when I get the creative buzz, which is becoming less and less frequent, which is sad to say.

Anyway, I listen to my tracks over and over before putting them up, adding little things like extra beats and noises, for example;
- I redone Sounds Like about 50 times before I was happy with it
- The click at the end of Mistaken took about 5 times for me to be happy with it, and also at the end when the beat stops you can hear a little tambourine, I put that it just for giggles to see if anyone noticed.
- I redone Fetch a few times, because I just had so many melodies and ideas to pack into that song. It was only about a minute at first and it was just an ambient piece, but then I just had brainwaves of what else I could do.
- I also rerecorded Over My Dead Body about 50 million different times, each time with and without things, such as the distortion and and reverb, to see if things fitted.

And many more instances.

The reason I make music frequently is because I want something to give you guys, since you're such an awesome bunch o' people it's nice to give something back to the people who've given me such great music in return.
It's also the reason I like people commenting, because I then know that people are still listening and appreciating my music. Yeah I have other people who listen but you guys actually know good music. >_>

Oh and one more thing; I put nearly everything I make up on my 'Space. Out of the last 10 songs I've made, I only have about 3 that I didn't put up.
I want to give you guys a full album/EP/thing of new shit, not old shit. That's why it's been a while between Marshmallow and now. Marshmallow and Barramundi were made about 2 months apart from each other (Venetian Snares eat your heart out), but since MySpace came into the equation, I've been using it to put all my good stuff up.

So... yeah. <_<
