Burial is great. Don't like how he's categorized as 'Dubstep' because to me dubstep is mindless club music.

Burial is fantastic, he's one of the maybe 8 artists I discovered the past 2 years that I just keep replaying.

Favourites include Southern Comfort, Forgive, Pirates, Near Dark (I can't take my eyes off *bass comes in* you, love it), Endorphin, Dog Shelter, UK. I don't think there's a single track I really dislike.

I haven't been checking the news, so when is his new album coming out?

huphtur pointed out that I missed Burial - Burial in my Best of 2006 mix. Luckely it seems like I didn't miss anything at all afterall.
To me it's like loosely connected beats with some vocal samples in it. Some beat structures are nice though but a weak release in general.

I'm not fond of Burial either. I just don't get the fuss.

But one track recently grabbed my attention. It's "moth" by Burial & Four Tet. A collaboration. This one got a real catchy fun melody. Makes me happy!

And to eliminate all possible confusion I'm talking about the 9:01 one. Not the one with the wooden percussion wind chimney stuff. Which is also nice, but not as nice as Moth.

i think 'untrue' is a crazy great album. i love the ambiguous vocal samples. and i agree that it sounds really urban. it reminds me of something you just catch in a taxi at 3am in nyc

I've thought burial a whole bunch less original since i heard Black Secret Technology. Not that I think the less of him for it, but AGCG was pulling off 80% of Burial's sound 15 years ago.

It takes time for sure... I was initially completely underwhelmed with 'Untrue' considering the hype; now the whole thing clicks. It took some repeated listens though.

Same here indeed. Especially great at night. It doesn't draw too much attention of me and still remains a pleasant listening experience.

Yea, it's something I can't listen to much. But you know, once every few months I wanna hear it. The self titled one suits my tastes better, I play it more. Always skip that spaceape track though, doesn't vibe well.

wow I am surprised to hear all the negative comments about Burial here.
I remember the first time I heard a track by him I found it a little loose and strange sounding, but it was in a record shop and I wasn't paying attention really. By about the third time I heard it, the radio was just closing up a dubstep show and Archangel came on. before I had even decided I liked his stuff, my first reaction was to leap across the room and crank it up.
That is always a good sign for me, it's the kind of unconscious reaction you make when no one else is around, to pop songs you really ought not to like.
When it is something that is already considered cool, you know it does more than simply tick all the right boxes. Which he does, but there is that kind of pure, unaffected expression in his songs which reminds me of Aphex and BOC, a certain natural flow to it... hard to describe- lovely to hear!

i really enjoyed the album and the atmosphere it has. it really does remind me of london on a dark rainy day. (i am referring to the 1st album, i've not even heard the 2nd yet!)

me too. I've heard a lot of people say they don't like it though for some reason. Fredd you should check out Kode-9 and his collaborations with Spaceape (The MC is also called spaceape )
