I check pitchfork regularly. mostly because its an entertaining way to check if a new boc album is announced since it'll be at the top of the news feed. seriously.

during my wait for new boc I have learned a lot about modern music on pitchfork via the news feed and artist profiles.

I don't value their critical opinions too highly, nor their ability to actually clue us in on the brand new music we should be listening to. they have had many major omissions in albums covered and reviewed since just the beginning of this year. they either completely skipped or gave seriously half-assed reviews to Planet High School by Mux Mool, Nautical Clamor by Tropics, and Dive by Tycho. all these are badass recent albums to almost anyone zeroed in on modern electronic music, at least as I see it, and for pitchfork to be constantly posting endless shit about the newest derivative and uninspired music acts while skipping over these artists is just a plain shame.

pitchfork has a weird way of framing their criticisms and commentary on music to make it seem as if they are the end-all-be-all of authority on the matter. I personally find this kind of uncomfortable at times when reading through some of their stuff.

I can admit, however, that I sometimes fully agree with their positions and way of covering certain acts. when they want to really respect an artist by how they cover them, they actually do. their coverage of animal collective and all their solo projects is a good example of this. I've also occasionally found good new music through their reviews, such as Its The Arps by Todd Terje.

so at the end of the day, pitchfork carries a heavy influence in terms of controlling new music trends, but can very hit or miss in the attention they give and the way they cover certain artists.

My interest in the band has waned off a little but as someone who has spend a lot of money and time on this band I'm completely able to understand the enthusiasm and hopes for an imminent album release. However, like several members have already correctly implied, assuming that Pitchfork is wrong or misinformed because they state what you don't want to hear is downright dogmatic thinking. Also, whether they're "hipsters" or not and whether or not they are a respectable music reviewing site is completely beside the point of assessing the authenticity of their statement.

Obviously we all know the album will be announced via Yahoo news, though. The article will say "Bizarre Canadian Band Has Surprise - See what it is>>"
You're gonna carry that weight.

Yeah and then it links you to a video where you have to watch a 30 second long advertisement for the new Chevy Volt before you're able to watch the intended clip.

It's nothing personally against the reviews that Pitchfork has published that leads to this thinking, but moreso the fact that their ideologies conflict. Warp/Boards is very humble, reclusive and doesn't like thrive on image at all. Pitchfork is the exact opposite and it would seem to me, of all the sources Warp could report to, Pitchfork getting a comment first would be very strange.

There's not dogma to it as you've suggested. People who come off as Pitchfork "haters" are often willing to give Pitchfork a chance to improve, I myself am one. For sure, it has come a long way since the days of Brent Anecdotal DiCreshipster, but has Pitchfork gotten to the point where I can trust it to be delivering news about no new Boards coming, especially when all of us here know there's been more from Boards in terms of an update than there has in six years? No, not really.

The thing is - they're not going to break my stride. I'm not going to let them. Boards is working on new material, I firmly believe it and seriously, seriously look forward to it. Someone wants to come along with a blog-length post that sums up as "stop being hopeful", fuck them. Fuck them hard. I need more information than that.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.

I've never thought of BOC or their fans as hipsters. I think to be a hipster you have to be like music from Brooklyn, for instance, the garbage that is animal collective.

ok then tell me why Animal Collective is hipster.

Why do people still feel they need to insult people who have different fucking musical tastes to them.
They are not you, you are you, and if you're happy with your musical taste then WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE.

Fucking THIS.

Agreed. I read their news everyday. don't hold their reviews on a pedestal.

With that said. the BoC post was kind of unnecessary. feel like they were just trying to make other websites that posted about a new album coming look bad, when really warped probably doesn't know much to begin with.

What seems weird to me is that if Warp had any sort of official announcement to make they would do it on their facebook page which is quite active, at least that's what I was thinking earlier today.

You're right. I'll wait until Warp goes to the New York Times to make their statement.

Nailed it. The knee-jerk pitchfork hate is ridiculous. Warp made an official statement to an established website (probably because they inquired). And it wasn't what everyone wanted to hear. Boo hoo. Atleast they are still an entity and working on music. And yes it's been almost 7 years. It sucks. Don't hold your breath. Listen to the other great music that's made everyday.

It's Tommy the Cat, from Primus' music video of the same name. :D

"Pitchfork hate", "official statement", think whatever you guys want to think. It's apparent that everybody seems to want to pick sides anyways.

It's really simple. Let's say you heard an "official statement" from the government that went directly to Fox News (or dailymail for UK users), didn't appear on any official government sites or congressional addresses, and didn't appear on any other news sources. Would you believe them about it?

Now, replace Fox News with Pitchfork. Same thing.

Unless of course you honestly believe Pitchfork is a good, refutable source for music information. Then it's a completely different story, and most likely inarguable.
Okay...now...wait for fog machine.
