However, like several members have already correctly implied, assuming that Pitchfork is wrong or misinformed because they state what you don't want to hear is downright dogmatic thinking. Also, whether they're "hipsters" or not and whether or not they are a respectable music reviewing site is completely beside the point of assessing the authenticity of their statement.

You know to some people WE'D be considered hipsters?
I've never thought of BOC or their fans as hipsters. I think to be a hipster you have to be like music from Brooklyn, for instance, the garbage that is animal collective.
ok then tell me why Animal Collective is hipster.
Why do people still feel they need to insult people who have different fucking musical tastes to them.
They are not you, you are you, and if you're happy with your musical taste then WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE.

during my wait for new boc I have learned a lot about modern music on pitchfork via the news feed and artist profiles.
I don't value their critical opinions too highly, nor their ability to actually clue us in on the brand new music we should be listening to. they have had many major omissions in albums covered and reviewed since just the beginning of this year. they either completely skipped or gave seriously half-assed reviews to Planet High School by Mux Mool, Nautical Clamor by Tropics, and Dive by Tycho. all these are badass recent albums to almost anyone zeroed in on modern electronic music, at least as I see it, and for pitchfork to be constantly posting endless shit about the newest derivative and uninspired music acts while skipping over these artists is just a plain shame.
pitchfork has a weird way of framing their criticisms and commentary on music to make it seem as if they are the end-all-be-all of authority on the matter. I personally find this kind of uncomfortable at times when reading through some of their stuff.
I can admit, however, that I sometimes fully agree with their positions and way of covering certain acts. when they want to really respect an artist by how they cover them, they actually do. their coverage of animal collective and all their solo projects is a good example of this. I've also occasionally found good new music through their reviews, such as Its The Arps by Todd Terje.
so at the end of the day, pitchfork carries a heavy influence in terms of controlling new music trends, but can very hit or miss in the attention they give and the way they cover certain artists.

You're right. I'll wait until Warp goes to the New York Times to make their statement.
