I like how Semena Mertvykh gives off a feeling of "this is only the beginning". i'd love a drone album in similar vein from BoC.

This probably would qualify for "things you've noticed after years of listening" by now as much as this topic, as it's been a few years...

Revisited the great segue of Transmisiones Ferox into Split Your Infinities, and thought I'd continue the palindromic thing, going straight from Split into Sick Times... Can't believe I've only just noticed the matching elements in the main drum patterns of those two - how did I ever miss that? Especially those hi-hats... No doubt someone mentioned it way back and I totally missed that too.

Trying to make some sense of Split Your Infinities that despite being more uptempo and maybe sonically 'brighter' than Sick Times, it creates just as much of a bad feeling - maybe even moreso - just in a different way. 'Bad' is a bit of a poor choice of word there... Get the sense from that chord progression on the earlier side of the tune that something has gone very wrong.

Toward the end of Nothing Is Real, the right channel has been stealing attention in a way it previously didn't, for me. Can't figure any of it out, though! The laser-like sound effects in this have been evoking a bit of a sci-fi, arcade game vibe

I want to add something from my self,

great post,

first that strikes me about those two tracks Sick Times and Split Your Infinities is that SYI is dense as hell, just listen closely, there's wall of sounds and it's pretty reletnless how it delivered on top of "that" melody, or melody on top of that?
sick times has very intersting structure and that abrupt ending, it's like, it's take you together in to that fall at the end,

so what about these two tracks, are you saying there's the same elements used between these two tracks?

More than three years later I can say, that surprisingly I can'nt stand Jacquard Causeway, Reach for the Dead still the best track on the record and Whit Cyclosa is a very catchy tune, Colde Eart and Sick Times come close, overall the B side of the album is probably my favorite :)

Yeah, part of the drums; the hi-hats in in particular. On Sick Times, they first kick-in at 1:30; On SYI, they fade in with the other percussion.

...But, in my perception at least, it sounds like their respective patterns are offset by 1 bar - so...

For Sick Times, the next bar is just before 1:33, and on SYI a clear 'start' of the percussion line is at 0:45; I'd go to those two times, and listen for the hat line in each.

They are different tempos of course - speeding up Sick Times to match SYI might make it easier to compare, but I'm not sure (much as I'm also not sure if this explanation is very good...)

That was pretty well explained, thanks

I used to hate Jacquard Causeway, but I realized how similar it is to Autechre's Eutow and that let me look at the song in a new light

It's my favourite track of TH. Even more so it's in my top 3 favorite BoC tracks. That little melody at 2:43 is heaven.

Really? That's an awfully long list of songs that could be in your top 3.

Jacquard Causeway is pure class, so original. almost sounds like their machines are weeping.

One up for Jacquard Causeway here too, pure bliss. Those overlapping melodies, sounds very unique to me.

Though I must admit the first few times I heard it I didn't really like it at all. Took me a good while (and good headphones) to get into it! But now it's one of my favs on TH. I think it's definitely a grower.

tomorrows harvest is great, and i thoroughly enjoy it. but the overall feeling of the album seems a bit too familiar and not too much different than their previous releases. i never got that feeling on previous releases. everything before tomorrows harvest always seemed fresh and like completely new parts of the brain were being explored.

tomorrows haverst wasn't stale by any means, but it did feel like a retread of old territory. which in my opinion, i really hope they don't do again. but thats only if we are lucky enough for any more new music,

I am still returning to this LP more than the others these days. BoC's most cohesive 'statement' piece, if not their best album.

I love the attitude of Jacquard Causeway. Like it's daring the listener to wrap their mind around the structure of the track, but in a "check out how cool this sounds" way.

Also, for me this album went from sounding bleak and kinda ominous to almost comforting with recent listens for some reason.

long story short. i was having a "psychedelic experience" and decided to listen to tomorrow's harvest while laying in bed about to go to sleep.

i never really got the cold war vibe from the album. and when listening to the album in the past, i was never really able to ever view any type of moving scene or imagery in my head from the music

well. when listening to it the other night, i couldnt help but get a very strong alien abduction vibe. gemini immediately gave me the vibe of something very foreign or alien happening. and then come to dust immediately went into some type of ufo landing or something like that. the helicopters in white cyclosa gave the vibe of government trying watch or gather info on a ufo landing. then jacquard causeway felt very extra dimensional.

i know it all sounds strange, and its tough for me to explain by typing over the internet. but i do remember people saying that when the first heard tomorrows harvest it had a strong alien or ufo vibe. and now i know exactly what they meant by that.

Good post. I need to try and experience this sometime, but I think I can imagine I know exactly what you are talking about.

I think that the biggest thing I hold on in whole TH idea, that we all are the same in some way.. we are all gonna die, YES, no matter where are you from, how stron or weak you are, you gonna end eventually, this is what it is, this is the main score of this record, you may like or not,

also I tried drugs, it is fun

To me they very consciously mimicked the structure of Geogaddi in terms of types of songs and where - or it could just be a coincidence that the fourth song on each is highly disorienting rhythm-wise. her way, they set the album up nicely-
Merry christmas (almost) all.

Jacquard Causeway is the most original track on the album, still it feels very "retro", the most mindblowing piece of music-on the enitre album, for the first time TH listeners,
Merry Christmas
