Legacy twoismite 'Zander 2' (he's long gone from here as far as I can tell) sent me the files for Carte-De-Visite around the time it was released in '07 and I was hooked! I proceeeded to track down everything I could. This is the track where I was certain this was a tremendous musical discovery indeed:

I still wish this had actually come out, and now I forget why it didn't... Or did it?

It never came out. If I remember rightly, they fell out with the film maker. Shame because it looked good.

Can't tell you how much I love this brief exchange between you two ha.

Basinski: I wanted Cascade to become this crystalline organism like a star or a liquid crystal spaceship, a jellyfish traveling through the galaxy…

First spin through and I'm liking it. Definitely deserves more listens to get the full impression.

This has been in heavy rotation since it came out. Definitely worth the time to become really familiar with all the different textures and moods that reveal themselves. I'm not going to compare it to anything from SotL, or other projects WIltzie is in. I think this deserves to be heard and evaluated on it's own merit, as its own thing.

always loved The Dead Texan a lot, but never really got SOTL until a couple months ago. Was flying from the States to Europe, and I had Austin Texas Mental Hospital Part 3 on loop, looking out the window. It was sundown over the east coast/west atlantic, and the clouds were golden, then purple, then grey like starlight, and everything felt so intimate. A cliche, but I felt connected to everything. Like hey clouds, we're going east together. Hey plane, thanks for carrying me where I need to go. I thought about things, big things happening in my life, and they felt so small and far away.

It's very very hard to describe succinctly but it was special and transcendental and changed my perception a bit. Tired Sounds used to sound hot and blinding to me, now it's crisp and cool, so far but feeling so close, next to the Van Allen belts.

Those looping, pure drone tunes of theirs, like Austin Texas Mental Hospital Part 3 and Music for Twin Peaks Episode 30 Part 1, are probably my favourites of theirs. Transcendental.

At this point Tired Sounds is, by some distance, my most played album by anyone ever. It's become like a comfort blanket. A harbour.

I do the same with this album. It’s basically a therapy session. Opens me up, lets me breathe, then ties everything up for me nicely.

I don't think there's a week that's gone by for years now that I've not listened to Tired Sounds. It's basically perfect.

The top video on youtube for Requiem for Dying Mothers used to be a super-slowed down clip of part of an episode of Alf. I miss that video, it was weirdly melancholic and compelling.

Indeed so. I'm really hoping that documentary from 2010 finally sees the light of day.

Still miss them so much.
