He did review prophecy quite well in his tracks of the week roundup. Well. I say "well", I mean "well" in that he was positive about it. Some really weird comments and omissions in there. You'd think that guitar would warrant a mention.

But maybe he'll tune in harder with the full album.

Hehe. You absolutely nailed it there!

The reviewer seemed to go into it with the opinion that their referencing of religion could only be as a form of cynical mockery. I mean, that has never been BoC's style or stance before, so why should it be now?

The music journalism has been the weak point of the Guardian for years. They nailed their colours to planet "pop" a while back and struggle to write away from that.

Ian! I was asking Mex about your whereabouts at the pub. So good to see you back mate.

And yes that Guardian interview is a crock of shite!

Eh? Post above is my first in this thread.

4 star review in MOJO

The use of sampled speeches from various religious sources also calls to mind David Byrne and Brian Eno’s landmark 1981 LP, My Life In The Bush of Ghosts, but whereas that LP often felt like a satire of religious faith, Inferno, with its focus on American voices and the chasm between what’s said and what’s meant, suggests something far more urgent and critical.

That's a lovely, thoughtful take. Well done Mojo.

Haha, the bloody Graun!

It's not just the music section that suffers. The sports staff are also quite poor these days too (apart from the excellent Jonathan Liew).

Honestly, this is exactly what I suspected. Its going to be a 50/50, critically "medicore" album to everyone else... I mean... I think its meant for us thats why, not them. My thoughts on the matter. I honestly don't know what everyone was expecting. I've even seen some posts here pointing out this albums seems to mostly be Mike's work, with just Marcus performing on it. Exactly how a band would! I'm surprised nobody is seeing this connection, they've wanted to do this kind of stuff since Day 1. Just had to let the IDM "type cast" wear off. I know this is going to be my favourite already, I can't wait until the 29th!

Also, if they've been "preforming" on this album. Well... what stops them performing this live? I can see whats happening here, and I hope I am right.

David Squires gets a pass too. Largely for this work of art: https://davidsquirescartoons.com/en-gb/collections/colour-prints/products/godspeed-england-signed-a4-print

I liked that Mojo review a lot - when I saw a Mojo link I'd hoped it would be written by Andrew Male; he's a great writer (and a lovely, lovely fella - we've chatted a bit on social media over the years).

I think it was Andrew Male who kicked off a monster thread on Bluesky a while back, asking for drone recommendations. I got some great tips from that thread, he does come across as a good guy.

I'm very well thank you. Thrilled to see so many familiar names on here again. I always think of you when I'm listening to SOTL (which is often). Hope you're doing well too. Likewise Fujee and Negamuse. Wish I could have nabbed a ticket for the 22nd but wasn't to be.

Really liked that Mojo review. Some on-point observations - loved the comparison to My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. My most local indie is doing a listening thing on the 28th, so looking forward to finally hearing it then... and then properly at home on Friday. :)

Aw. :)

I can't remember if I ever got the chance to tell you in person but I thought your album was great and I've been putting it under the noses of anyone I can who's into this stuff. Hope to hear more stuff from you down the line!

The Mojo review is my favorite so far too, great header.

I feel like there were more critical reactions to Tomorrow’s Harvest from the listenership than music journalists. And a lot of people seemed to resist The Campfire Headphase initially. It will be interesting to see if the reaction to Inferno is as divisive.

Agreed. New Weathermonger or Redpoint would be most welcome.

Thank you. That's very kind of you both.

Andy and I are working on some things at the moment. Taking a couple of months off work to get back into a creative groove. Who knew bookselling could be so exhausting? :D
