Hehe. You absolutely nailed it there!
The reviewer seemed to go into it with the opinion that their referencing of religion could only be as a form of cynical mockery. I mean, that has never been BoC's style or stance before, so why should it be now?
The music journalism has been the weak point of the Guardian for years. They nailed their colours to planet "pop" a while back and struggle to write away from that.

The use of sampled speeches from various religious sources also calls to mind David Byrne and Brian Eno’s landmark 1981 LP, My Life In The Bush of Ghosts, but whereas that LP often felt like a satire of religious faith, Inferno, with its focus on American voices and the chasm between what’s said and what’s meant, suggests something far more urgent and critical.

Ian! I was asking Mex about your whereabouts at the pub. So good to see you back mate.
And yes that Guardian interview is a crock of shite!Mexicola wrote:Oh boy. Fugee, calm yourself.
Eh? Post above is my first in this thread.

It's not just the music section that suffers. The sports staff are also quite poor these days too (apart from the excellent Jonathan Liew).

I liked that Mojo review a lot - when I saw a Mojo link I'd hoped it would be written by Andrew Male; he's a great writer (and a lovely, lovely fella - we've chatted a bit on social media over the years).

I can't remember if I ever got the chance to tell you in person but I thought your album was great and I've been putting it under the noses of anyone I can who's into this stuff. Hope to hear more stuff from you down the line!

Agreed. New Weathermonger or Redpoint would be most welcome.
