You're definitely not the only one. I've read numerous reports on big failures with GTA 4 on either system; xbox360 or ps3. Both have epic failures.
- huge framedrops
- system complete lockup after first cutscene
- random freezes of 1-2 sec in game each 20-25 seconds
Very annoying to say the least and a huge smack in the face of Rockstar and Take Two.
I've read numerous tips all across various forums to fix the issues. If you've got a PS3 take a look at this: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6190279.ht ... bj=6190279
Amongs other things you'll have to completely disable the internet when playing the game, disable the vibrant fuction, remove savegames, delete gamefiles and reinstall...
I've seen the most positive comments after people removed the ethernet cable from the console... must be something network related then that causes the game to freeze and become unresponsive. Hopefully this is of any help to you.
I think I hold off buying a console for now with all these xboxes rrod'ing and ps3's freezing... blegh

Very strange indeed, you think this would have been found in the testing eh?
My PS3 has yet to freeze

There aren't enough songs in it though.
The stations aren't long enough.
Sure, there's 16 of them.. but they aren't as long as they used to be.
