Well, it's totally correct. That man they quote from isn't terrible...he's a freakin genius. I love how it's illegal yet the CIA has been caught several times shipping in heroin, coke, etc etc...Miami wouldn't be anything more than a swamp if the CIA didnt bring in enough Yayo to build 1000 high rises. There is huge amounts of money that go into keeping it illegal so that they can get rich off of it..

Ahh screw it. It's all bollocks. I really do think cannabis will be legal here in the states soon anyways...every single time it has gotten on the ballot in our states, decriminalization has passed. Whenever the people get to choose, it is approved. We are at 13 states allowing marijuana now, with 3 more in the works and many more with current ballot initiatives on it..

The federal government won't do anything until all of the states vote for it and it goes to the supreme court...I'm calling this now. And we will win.

It's a damn bush, people....

^^ precisely.

it's pretty upsetting that the guy himself speaks out about his backhanded gratitude for our prohibition, yet even that doesn't encourage people to stand up for decriminalization. it's hard to acknowledge that citizens even have a chance in this. i watched an amazing documentary (i think on google vidz) about a month ago called "american drug war". it was incredibly eye-opening. most of the topics phasen is talking about are covered in pretty good detail. in-feckin'-credible the things people do for money...

*sparks a joint*--too bad these cost money

Guys, it's a satire article. Look up David Henry Sterry, the guy who wrote it.

That said, I am passionate about marijuana law. I co-formed a marijuana law reform group on my campus last year and we have gone to great lengths to promote the issue. We're one of campus's most active and passionate groups (and a great place to meet stoners). We're also one of the most organized and motivated (fancy that). We've gotten hundreds of students to write to their representatives and senators in support of medical marijuana legislature, worked with MPP (they are a fantastic org), and on the Global Marijuana March, hundreds of us marched in demonstration through the streets of Minneapolis.

Get off your ass and do your part homies!! And for pete's sake, educate yourselves!

Congrats to your entire state man. I heard about whats up there. Florida has it's first serious push going on now to get this on the ballot for 2010!

And yes ^^- Two very good documentaries are 'American Drug War' and 'Cocaine Cowboys'. Both entirely factual and shows how f-d up it all is.

 I knew I shouldn't believe everything I read.

I suppose I just have a much more cynical viewpoint on the issue, and the story didn't seem that far off. Unlabeled news from The Onion has fooled me before too, but it doesn't mean their points aren't valid.

I've spent the last 4 years in a national park where possession of even a gram is a felony. A couple of my friends got busted because they were tempted to run into Mendocino for the weekend. Then you will see the park rangers in their camp smoking all the confiscated shit at the end of the day.

There was actually a plane crash in Yosemite in the 70's filled with weed and cash and some of the rangers who first responded to the scene to clean up made quite a good living for themselves selling all the weed to the climbers living in the park and then turning around and busting them for promotion salaries. It's just very hard for me to see past the power of corruption and, although I never say it's impossible, I have seen in my own experience that it is easier to bribe a federal employee threatening to send you to prison for weed than it is to fight it. I now unfortunately live in Salt Lake City where the laws on these issues are almost more severe than in the park.

I obviously realize turquoise is pretty well versed on this subject and I'm not debating with him. What he and his campus friends are doing is good and I hope it helps. It looks like it is so far.

But as far as nationwide change goes, it is simply going to take a shit ton of money. These legislators IN MY OPINION don't give a shit about letters and marches and 4/20 rallies. It might scare them slightly eventually when the majority starts fighting for legalization, but not as badly as defaulting the mortgage on their home in the Hamptons would. Most of these lawmakers would rather die than miss a paycheck from the powerful with anti-weed agendas. Fortunately for them, they don't really have to choose between the two, do they? Even they are pawns for the bigger picture.

I don't know it all, but I feel money has and always will win. Bah humbug.

It took me a sec to figure it out myself - I was this close to emailing that article to some people!

No dude, your views are pretty much expressive of what I've found to be true, too. For all our legitimate campaigning and awareness-raising, you just can't fight the machine that way - I figure our most positive impact is in getting people our own age used to seeing marijuana as an issue for discussion and an issue of their own rights being trampled on. The politicos we're supposedly fighting have been dealing with our kind for decades - nobody's scared of some angry college kids, we're in our place already media-wise and socially.

But, at the end of the day, I say to myself, changing marijuana law is good whether it succeeds or fails, and it's important to remember, I'm not doing this so I can smoke weed - I already can, and will, every day, no matter what the law says. I'm doing this so the law will be more in accordance with how I already (peacefully, happily, productively) live.

i went to the capitol (st paul) today to watch the senate hearing for the medical marijuana bill. me and two girls from NORML teamed up with the MPP lady who was there and held signs in the hallways for a while, then went up to the public gallery when the hearing started and watched the debate. sen. murphy championed the bill and did a rather good job defending it with spirit and in most cases at least referring to fact and good argument. other good points were brought up by both dfl and rep members, but the worst (and most inflammatory) stuff came from three or four totally unloveable repubs who seemed straight out of the cold war. one member reminded strongly of an older, minnesotan sarah palin. the worst rhetorical sophistry was conjured, appallingly bad arguments used, borderline flamebait comments made that EASILY (to my surprise, actually) matched the dumbest troll shit you see on the internet. california's system was referenced innumerable times long after the introducer of the bill (murphy) stated himself that it was thoughtfully tailored (as with all the other 12 states with such legislature) to avoid the problems of cali's ballot initiative.

but the bill passed 36 to 28, and is now on its way to the house. if it passes the house, it's on gov. pawlenty's desk. he's said he's gonna shoot it down since law enforcement is against it. balls. that's government for you. in other news, i just found out i'm apparently participating in a black bloc tomorrow if it goes down. i can tell you guys here on this public internet forum because it's a black bloc of approximately zero impact for an event so trivial it's almost a non-event. still, i won't mention what it is just in case.... in case i get paranoid. which i just did.

that's the totally unprofessional hidden channel local political and highness report.

so i'm posting this here because i can't stand to see the 'swine flu' thread bumped again. this is really interesting in all other applications though. i wish i wasn't holding out on a drug test right now to get a job....
Cannabis Science Inc. (OTCBB: GFON.OB), an emerging pharmaceutical cannabis company, reported today on the current state of development of its whole-cannabis lozenge in response to Homeland Security Administration Secretary Janet Napolitano’s declaration of a public health emergency to deal with the emerging Swine Flu pandemic. The Company’s non-toxic lozenge has properties that could alleviate many of the symptoms and harmful effects of the H5N1 bird flu and H1N1 swine flu viruses

wow that is interesting. although i'm not sure about it not being effective if you smoke it as opposed to using the lozenge. weed is a great antihistamine. Any time ive had a cold and been really stuffy I smoke up and it helps. Usually the cold is gone or much better the next day

Think i'm gonna blaze right now actually
