That said, I am passionate about marijuana law. I co-formed a marijuana law reform group on my campus last year and we have gone to great lengths to promote the issue. We're one of campus's most active and passionate groups (and a great place to meet stoners). We're also one of the most organized and motivated (fancy that). We've gotten hundreds of students to write to their representatives and senators in support of medical marijuana legislature, worked with MPP (they are a fantastic org), and on the Global Marijuana March, hundreds of us marched in demonstration through the streets of Minneapolis.
Get off your ass and do your part homies!! And for pete's sake, educate yourselves!

I suppose I just have a much more cynical viewpoint on the issue, and the story didn't seem that far off. Unlabeled news from The Onion has fooled me before too, but it doesn't mean their points aren't valid.

But as far as nationwide change goes, it is simply going to take a shit ton of money. These legislators IN MY OPINION don't give a shit about letters and marches and 4/20 rallies. It might scare them slightly eventually when the majority starts fighting for legalization, but not as badly as defaulting the mortgage on their home in the Hamptons would. Most of these lawmakers would rather die than miss a paycheck from the powerful with anti-weed agendas. Fortunately for them, they don't really have to choose between the two, do they? Even they are pawns for the bigger picture.
I don't know it all, but I feel money has and always will win. Bah humbug.
